The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) of New Mexico is made up of representatives from around the state, the majority of which have disabilities, who are appointed by the Governor. It is a consumer controlled organization which develops, monitors, and evaluates the federally funded State Plan for Independent Living in the state of New Mexico, which promotes the Independent Living philosophy statewide. The SILC also provides support and technical assistance to the entire network of Centers for Independent Living (CILs).
